Cancer is a deadly condition that’s caused by cells growing and reproducing uncontrollably in the body, according to the NHS. Left untreated, the cancerous cells can attack other, healthy cells in the body, including vital organs. More than one in three people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime, and there are more than 200 different types of cancer. You could reveal whether you’re at risk of cancer symptoms by regularly checking your poo. These are the warning cancer signs to look out for.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancer to be diagnosed in the UK, and you could reveal your risk by checking your stools.

One of the main symptoms of bowel cancer is having a persistent change to your bowel habits.

That could include using the toilet more often than normal, or having looser stools, said the NHS.

But, you could also be at risk of the condition if you persistently find blood in your poo, it added.

“Most people with these symptoms do not have bowel cancer,” it said. “These symptoms should be taken more seriously as you get older and when they persist despite simple treatments.

“If you have one or more of the symptoms of bowel cancer and they have persisted for more than four weeks, see your GP.”

You could also be at risk of bowel cancer if you have a persistent stomach pain or bloating, it added.

Meanwhile, your poo could also reveal your risk of pancreatic cancer, it’s been revealed.

Pancreatic cancer symptoms can be very vague and may come and go to begin with, said charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.

But, you could also be at risk of the disease if your poo is particularly smelly, it said.

“Pancreatic cancer often doesn’t cause any signs or symptoms in the early stages,” said the charity. “This can make it hard to diagnose early.

“As the cancer grows, it may start to cause symptoms. The symptoms and how bad they are can vary for each person.

“Symptoms include changes to bowel habits - including steathorrhoea [pale, smelly poo that may float], diarrhoea [loose watery poo], or constipation [problems empty your bowel].”

Steathorrhoea is caused by having fat in your poo. It’s most likely to occur in pancreatic cancer patients where the tumour has affected their digestion.

If the patient isn’t able to properly digest the fat in their diet, it can be emptied through the bowels with your stool.

Speak to a doctor if you’re worried about the signs or symptoms of pancreatic cancer.
